Built-in Chart Element Editors

  • 3 minutes to read

The Ribbon-Based FlowChart Editor allows you to customize a chart element‘s appearance.

This topic describes the built-in editors available in this editor:

  • The “Edit Object“ and “Edit Connection“ dialogs.

  • The “Properties“ pane.

Dialogs

Use the “Edit Object“ and “Edit Connection“ dialogs to adjust a chart element’s dimensions, line style, and visual content. To invoke these dialogs, double-click an element within the designer area or click the “Properties” context menu item.

Edit Object Dialog

This dialog includes the General, Image and Frame tabs. The tab item descriptions are shown below.

General Tab

Use the “Height” and “Width” fields to specify the chart symbol dimensions.

Use the “Text” and “Text Layout” UI elements to enter and align text within the chart symbol.

The “Shape Type” and “Line Width” define the chart symbol’s outline shape and width.

The “Shape” and “Background” color boxes allow you to specify the chart symbol’s outline and background colors. You can click either of them to invoke the “Edit Color” dialog and change the color.

The “Transparent” check box defines whether the chart symbol intersects other items.

Image Tab

The image list browser displays the content of the image list associated with the flow chart control.

The “Image Layout” combo box lists the available image positions within the chart symbol area.

The “Clear Image” button removes the image from the chart symbol.

Frame Tab

The “Edge” and “Border Style” check box groups allow you to apply shadow effects of the chart symbol.

Edit Connection Dialog

Use the “Text” and “Text Font” UI elements to enter text and customize its style.

The “Source” and “Destination” sections provide the capability to set the connection’s start and end point shape dimensions, style, and specify the anchor points that bind the connection and two chart symbols.

Click the “Color” box to invoke the “Color Editor“ dialog that allows you to change the current color.

Properties Pane

This pane displays chart symbols‘ and connections‘ general settings. Users can use this pane instead of the “Edit Object“ or “Edit Connection“ dialogs to customize a chart element’s appearance.

To enable the “Shapes” section, “Connection” section or all the sections on this pane, select a chart symbol, connection or both.

The table below lists the “Properties” pane’s subpanels that allow you to:

Subpanel Name Description
Common Adjust a char element’s outline appearance settings such as style, color, thickness and add inscriptional text.
Shape Set a chart symbol’s dimensions, rotation angle and background fill color.
Connection Customize a connection’s start and end point appearance settings such as arrow shape, its fill color and pixel size.
