Share a Document
- 2 minutes to read
The Spreadsheet control supports document sharing. A user can access the same document on multiple devices, or several users can edit the same document simultaneously. Document sharing requires the following:
- Multiple users/devices access the same document from a shared folder.
- Multiple users/devices access the same document from the control’s document storage.
This collaboration feature may benefit teams that must work on the same document and/or access the same document from multiple devices. For instance, a user can start working with a document on a desktop machine and continue editing the same document on a mobile device.
Important
Users can overwrite each other’s changes when the Spreadsheet is in multi-user edit mode.
Limitations
Document sharing has the following limitations:
- Users do not receive notifications about changes made by others. A user needs to update a page to view changes/modifications.
- All users share clipboard content. A user can inadvertently paste content that was copied by a different user.
- All users share a document’s change history. A user can undo changes made by a different user.
- When one user closes a document, others users will see a “Your session has expired” error when refreshing the document.
Prevent Document Sharing
Use one of the following techniques to prevent document sharing:
- Place copies of a document into different work folders for different users.
- Open a document as a template for each user.
