Form Assistant

  • 2 minutes to read

The Form Assistant is a utility control that helps you convert your default form to an XtraForm, Ribbon Form, Tabbed Form or backwards. All Form Assistant‘s functionality is available from its smart-tag (see the following figure).

WinForms - FormAssistant - Smarttag 1

The ‘Convert to Skinnable Form’ option converts your form to XtraForm. The ‘Convert to Ribbon Form’ link converts it to RibbonForm and adds RibbonControl and RibbonStatusBar controls to the form in case it does not already have them. The ‘Convert to Tabbed Form’ link converts the form to TabForm.

If the form is already converted to one of these types, the corresponding smart-tag link is replaced with ‘Convert to Regular Form’ link. Depending on the current form type, certain additional options can be displayed. For instance, the following figure illustrates the Form Assistant‘s smart-tag for the Ribbon Form.

Here, two additional options are included: ‘Allow Aero Glass Effect’ and ‘Border Effect’. These options specify the RibbonForm.AllowFormGlass and XtraForm.FormBorderEffect property values.

The Select Skin… link, located at the smart-tag’s bottom, adds another utility control to the form - the DefaultLookAndFeel component; and displays its smart-tag that contains the only element - a drop-down list that allows you to scroll through available DevExpress Skins and select the required one.
