Table of Contents

Table of contents is represented by a special TOC field.

Table of contents can be built from the entire document or from any portion of a document marked with a bookmark.

Table of contents entries are paragraphs in the document marked in a special way. TOC field switches determines what method is used in a each particular case. RichEditControl supports the following techniques used to mark TOC entries:

  • Heading styles, such as heading 1, heading 2 etc. (no switch is required);
  • Paragraph outline levels specified via the Paragraph.OutlineLevel property (use \u switch);
  • SEQ fields (use \c switch);
  • TC fields (use \f switch).

For more information on fields and field codes, review the TOC, SEQ and TC articles.

RichEditControl provides a set of commands that facilitates creating various TOCs for end-users. The corresponding command buttons are located at the Table of Contents group and Captions group.

You can format different levels within the table of contents by modifying special styles that are automatically created when an automatic TOC is included in the document. They are named "TOC 1", "TOC 2" etc. according to the TOC level.
